Legal Framework
In Slovenia, there is no mediation law.
The civil procedure law can be referred in some cases of mediation.
The President of the District Court prescribes the legal framework and the main general principles. Those principles were inspired by different recommendations of the Council of Europe ( Recommendations No.(98)1 on family mediation, No. (99)19 on mediation in penal matters, No. (2001)9 on alternatives to litigation between administrative authorities and private parties, No. (2002)10 on mediation in civil matters and by the Model Law on International Commercial Conciliation from the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
The laws regulating insurance and banking were inspired by the European Parliament and Council Directive 97/5 which states that insurance and bank companies should offer mediation for consumers.
